Texas pharmacies
Texas allows 6 per pharmacist. Only 3 of them may be trainees.
A Class A pharmacy in Texas may run 6 technicians and technician trainees for each on-site pharmacist, with a second limit of 3 trainees per pharmacist inside that. RxShift checks both numbers, hour by hour, before a schedule goes out.

Texas’s general retail ratio is a Board of Pharmacy rule rather than a statute, which means the Texas State Board of Pharmacy can change it without the Legislature. The rule has carried the same two-tier shape since December 2020; its most recent amendment, effective May 28, 2025, removed central-fill pharmacies with no patient contact from the ratio and left the community numbers untouched.
Certification works differently here than in most states RxShift covers. In Texas, certification is the entry requirement for technician registration, so every registered technician is certified and the trainee tier is the uncertified one, limited to two years. That is why the ratio has no certification lever: the flag that matters is whether a person is a technician or a trainee, and RxShift counts each toward the right limit.
What RxShift deliberately does not model in Texas: Class C institutional and Class D clinic pharmacies, which have no ratio; central fill with no patient contact, which has had no ratio since May 28, 2025; and the separate 1-to-1 preceptor-to-intern rule in 22 TAC 283.6(b). A Texas pharmacy in one of those settings, or a telepharmacy or remote site, should treat RxShift’s flat 6 with the 3-trainee limit as a conservative default that is never looser than the rule, not as the law for that setting.
