Mississippi pharmacies
How many technicians can a pharmacist supervise in Mississippi?
One Mississippi pharmacist may supervise no more than 3 pharmacy technicians at a time, in every pharmacy setting, under Miss. Admin. Code tit. 30, pt. 3001, art. XL § 4.D.
Mississippi allows 3, and it means 3 everywhere.
Three pharmacy technicians per pharmacist, in a community pharmacy and in an institutional one alike. Certification does not raise the number, there is no separate trainee limit, and pharmacy interns and externs are not counted toward it.
The rules
How Mississippi’s pharmacist-to-tech ratio works.
3 pharmacy technicians per pharmacist on duty at a time, in every setting (Miss. Admin. Code tit. 30, pt. 3001, art. XL § 4.D)
Certification does not change the number. A certified technician counts the same as any other technician.
Interns and externs are not counted toward the 3, but each must work with the supervising pharmacist physically present.
Staff doing only clerical work are outside the count.
Mississippi is one of the simplest ratios to state and one of the easiest to break on a busy day. The number is three, it does not move with certification, and the same three applies in a community pharmacy and a hospital pharmacy. With two pharmacists on duty a pharmacy may have six technicians working, and the moment one pharmacist steps out, six becomes three.
Interns and externs sit outside the count: the Board’s rule says they are not included in the three. That does not make them unsupervised. The rule requires a pharmacist to be physically present whenever an intern or extern is working, and RxShift flags a schedule that leaves one without a pharmacist.
The clerical exception is narrower than people remember. Only staff who do clerical work and nothing else are outside the ratio, and the current rule no longer names delivery staff among them.

Questions
Common questions
What is the pharmacist-to-technician ratio in Mississippi?
One Mississippi pharmacist may supervise no more than 3 pharmacy technicians at a time, in every pharmacy setting, under Miss. Admin. Code tit. 30, pt. 3001, art. XL § 4.D.
Does certification change Mississippi's ratio?
No. A certified pharmacy technician counts toward the 3 like any other technician, and Mississippi has no higher limit for a certified crew.
Do pharmacy interns and externs count toward Mississippi's ratio?
No. The Board's rule says externs and interns are not included in the three technicians a pharmacist may supervise. A pharmacist must still be physically present whenever an intern or extern is working. RxShift applies the exclusion automatically once a person's role is set to pharmacy intern, and still checks that a pharmacist is on duty to supervise them.
Does Mississippi limit pharmacy shift length or require breaks?
Not in its pharmacy law. Mississippi's pharmacy statute and Board rules set no maximum shift length, no minimum rest between shifts and no required break for pharmacy staff.
