Alabama pharmacies

In Alabama, certification doesn’t remove the ceiling: it raises it.

Alabama’s technician ceiling moves in steps as more certified techs are on duty: 2, then 3, then 4 per pharmacist. Certified techs still count toward the number; they’re what lets you go higher. RxShift tracks who’s certified and enforces the right ceiling for the crew you actually have scheduled.

The rules

How Alabama’s pharmacist-to-tech ceiling works.

2 technicians per pharmacist with no certified technicians on duty

3 technicians per pharmacist once at least one is certified

4 technicians per pharmacist once at least two are certified, the hard ceiling no matter how many more are certified

It’s an easy rule to get backwards. Alabama’s mechanic is the opposite of a state like Tennessee, where certified techs are uncapped and don’t count at all. Here, a certified technician still occupies one of the slots. They’re what unlocks the next slot in the first place. Two techs with no certifications is the floor; four is the ceiling no matter how many are certified beyond that.

RxShift tracks each technician’s certification status and recalculates the live ceiling for every shift as your crew mix changes, flagging any slot that goes over before you publish the schedule.

With more than one pharmacist on duty: a certified technician raises the limit only for the pharmacist he or she works under. The certified technicians are not shared across the pharmacy. RxShift computes the total the crew is allowed and assumes the certified technicians are arranged so each pharmacist meets the tier for the technicians that pharmacist supervises.
